Puppies have 28 deciduous teeth that typically fall out by about six  months of age. By this time, your <em><strong>dog<\/strong> <\/em>should be getting his <em><strong>teeth brushed<\/strong><\/em> regularly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"dog teeth\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3442\/3918273760_ef4b9534ed_z.jpg?zz=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"114\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are some important tips to keep in mind when <em><strong>brushing your dog\u2019s teeth<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a \u201cfinger brush\u201d or special long toothbrush designed for use on  dogs. When starting out with brushing, the finger brush can help ease  your dog into it, as these do not feel as awkward as hard brushes.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t ever use human toothpaste to brush your <em><strong>dog\u2019s teeth<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 it can make your dog sick. Use special enzymatic toothpaste made  especially for dogs. The same goes for oral rinses. You can pick these  up at The Country Feed Store.<\/li>\n<li>Plaque begins to turn into tartar \/ calculus within 24-48 hours, so daily brushing is recommended. Work your <em><strong>dog\u2019s tooth<\/strong><\/em> brushing into your own routine \u2013 consider brushing his teeth around the  same time you do yours so it will be easier to remember.<\/li>\n<li>Before you begin, ask your veterinarian to show you some techniques to make <em><strong>tooth brushing<\/strong><\/em> easier on you and your dog.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are not able to brush your <em><strong>dog\u2019s teeth<\/strong><\/em>,  there are other options. Consider using oral rinses made especially for  dogs. You can also purchase special dental treats.
