{"id":1282,"date":"2013-09-13T20:17:44","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T20:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/blog\/?p=1282"},"modified":"2013-09-13T20:17:44","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T20:17:44","slug":"7-must-know-tips-for-bird-owners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/blog\/7-must-know-tips-for-bird-owners","title":{"rendered":"7 Must Know Tips For Bird Owners"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Are you a first time bird owner?<\/h3>\n<h2>Even if you\u2019ve had birds all your life, the following tips are helpful to all bird owners:<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"pet bird\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/43\/143590548_90ff347293_z.jpg?zz=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"103\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Before bringing your <em><strong>bird <\/strong><\/em>home, you will want to make sure you purchase a large well-constructed cage.\u00a0 No matter the species, it is important for your bird to have enough room to stretch his wings and fly short distances.\u00a0 Horizontal bars and perches need to also be installed in your cage at varying heights.<\/li>\n<li>Line the bottom of the cage with plain paper or paper bags that are cut to size and make sure it is changed daily.\u00a0 We recommend sprinkling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/english\/products\/10\/pet_odor_eliminator_14oz\/12.html\" target=\"_blank\">Clear The Air<\/a> at the bottom of your bird cage to keep odors away.\u00a0 Place your bird\u2019s cage in a warm, bright part of the house off the floor that is close to where the action is but away from drafts and direct sunlight.\u00a0 Make sure your bird is not close to the kitchen as they are extremely sensitive to fumes from ovens, cookware and such.<\/li>\n<li>When it comes to feeding your <em><strong>bird<\/strong><\/em>, pelleted food is the way to go.\u00a0 While seed mixes provide variety, they do not always provide the best nutrition. Fresh veggies and fruits should be given to your bird every day.\u00a0 Dark, leafy greens are packed with vitamins and many birds also enjoy carrots and broccoli.\u00a0 Fresh cold water should also be available at all times and changed at least once a day.<\/li>\n<li>A trained and tamed bird will need at least an hour of exercise out of the cage in a safe and enclosed room every day.\u00a0 He may simply want to just sit on your shoulder or explore the room.\u00a0 For birds that do not take to handling, providing a selection of toys like ladders, swings and mirrors with bells are a great way to keep your bird entertained.<\/li>\n<li>Providing a shallow dish at the bottom of the cage is a great way to provide a bath for your <em><strong>bird <\/strong><\/em>and keeping his plumage looking perfect.\u00a0 It is probably a good idea to schedule a bath right before you plan to clean out the cage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do you have any bird tips you\u2019d like to share?
