{"id":432,"date":"2012-02-03T12:05:34","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T20:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=432"},"modified":"2014-01-13T21:00:33","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T21:00:33","slug":"day-4-of-helpful-tips-for-you-and-your-pet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/blog\/day-4-of-helpful-tips-for-you-and-your-pet","title":{"rendered":"Day #4 of Helpful Tips For You And Your Pet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Day #4 of Helpful Tips For You And Your Pet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we discussed the steps you should take when bringing home a <em><strong>new pet<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 If you have existing pets already, there are some additional steps to be taken to make sure everyone gets along together when they meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day #4: <em>Introducing New Pets To Existing Pets<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your pets\u2019 personalities will determine whether or not the <em><strong>new pet<\/strong><\/em> will get along with the older one.\u00a0 When a new pet is brought home, sometimes the older pet views him\/her as a threat and this is only natural.\u00a0 Expect a few scuffles at first to let them determine who is the boss and determine their place in the pack.\u00a0 Of course you will want to supervise these initial meetings but do not interrupt them if there is no danger of injury.<\/p>\n<p>-Keep your pets separated until you are absolutely sure they will get along.\u00a0 Only allow them to interact with your supervision.\u00a0 Depending on their reactions to each other, it may take hours, days, weeks or even months for your pets to finally adjust to each other.<\/p>\n<p>-Keep the introductions indoors and controlled.\u00a0 Especially if you are introducing a dog and cat, make sure the dog is on a leash to avoid chasing or cornering the cat.\u00a0 This could be incredibly terrifying for the cat and you will prolong your process of eventually being able to tolerate each other.<\/p>\n<p>-Like above, keep cat and dog introductions controlled.\u00a0 However you do not want to hold a cat in your arms when introducing him\/her to a <em><strong>new pet<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 A frightened and nervous cat is likely to scratch you and cause more stressful commotion.<\/p>\n<p>-Make sure you allow your pet to familiarize itself with his\/her new home.\u00a0 Allow him to explore and sniff out different areas of your home.<\/p>\n<p>-Always provide separate water and feeding bowls.\u00a0 This allows your pet to calmly eat and drink without feeling the need to fight for their food.\u00a0 Also, make sure cats have separate litter boxes as well.<\/p>\n<p>-Dogs and cats are able to live in harmony with caged animals but precautions must be taken when initially introducing them.\u00a0 Cats are agile and placing a cage high up on a shelf doesn\u2019t guaranteed your caged pet will stay safe.<\/p>\n<p>-Pets need to meet each other on their own time.\u00a0 Don\u2019t force them together, they will adjust at their own pace.<\/p>\n<p>Check back for more helpful pet tips to come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Day #4 of Helpful Tips For You And Your Pet Yesterday we discussed the steps you should take when bringing home a new pet.\u00a0 If you have existing pets already, there are some additional steps to be taken to make sure everyone gets along together when they meet.
