{"id":505,"date":"2012-03-23T08:06:56","date_gmt":"2012-03-23T16:06:56","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=505"},"modified":"2014-01-13T20:57:35","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T20:57:35","slug":"chickens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/blog\/chickens","title":{"rendered":"Chickens"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Did you know it is chick season?\u00a0 For those of you that have chickens as pets, Clear the Air would like to share some helpful tips on caring for your chickens.<\/h2>\n<p>Remember, to keep chicken odor down, use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cleartheair.com\/english\/all_natural_eco_friendly_products.html\" target=\"_blank\">Clear the Air&#8217;s Odor Eliminator<\/a> &#8211; it is non toxic and completely safe even if consumed by your <em><strong>chickens<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Here are some helpful tips on why, what and how for <em><strong>chickens<\/strong><\/em>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>Why Raise Chickens?<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Easy and inexpensive to maintain (when compared to most other pets)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Eggs that are fresh, great-tasting &amp; nutritious<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Chemical-free bug and weed control<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Fun &amp; friendly pets with personality<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>First make sure you can legally own and raise backyard chickens<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> Search local chicken laws &amp; ordinances<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>How To Care For A Chick \u2013 First 60 Days:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">A Young Chick Brooder\u00a0 can be as simple as a sturdy cardboard box or a small animal cage like one you\u2019d use for rabbits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Pine shavings work best for flooring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"> The  temperature should be 90 to 100 deg. for the first week, decrease 5 deg.  per week.\u00a0 A 100 watt bulb pointing in one corner (not the whole  brooder) works well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Chick crumbles \/ starter &amp; a chick waterer work for food and water.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Play with your chicks when young to get the use to being around people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">Section off an  area in your yard where the chicks can explore, scratch, etc.\u00a0 Make  sure you can catch them when it\u2019s time to come in and make sure it is  blocked off well enough to keep predators, especially hawks and coyotes,  out!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>Chicken Care After First 60 Days, General Chicken Care:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once feathered out you\u2019ll want to move your chickens into a chicken  coop.\u00a0 Rule of thumb is about 2-3 square feet per chicken inside the  henhouse and 4-5 sq\/ft per chicken in an outside run.
